When Sitting for long periods is particularly dangerous
Prolonged Sitting increases the risk for cardiovascular disease and premature death. A new study shows that this applies equally for work and leisure: a person Who works in an office at a Desk, is less at risk than people who watch TV in the evening excessive.
The study by the Columbia University among more than 3,500 participants, found that the Sit is connected in front of the TV with a higher risk for heart diseases and deaths, not Sitting at work, however. Those who spent four or more hours a day in front of the TV, had according to the results, a 50 percent higher risk for diseases of the circulatory system than those who had less than two hours per day. Who was at work that long, was not more at risk than people without a seat the end of the activity. The difference, Dr. Keith M. Diaz, associate Professor of behavioral medicine at Columbia University, explains, as follows: "Many people tend to be motionless for hours watching TV, while most of the work up borrowers often of your Desk."
The authors of the study have also good news: those Who sit long, can make the negative effects due to sufficient sports and exercise again. People, the four or more hours per day watching TV, but at least 150 minutes per week of moving, had no increased risk for heart attack, stroke, or death.
The study was carried out with the 3.592 African-Americans, since they have in comparison to Europeans at higher risk for heart disease. They indicated how much time they spent sitting at work or at home in front of the TV and how much Sport you drove.
